The purpose of this study was to determine if the District's water quality complaints could be reduced by altering the treatment process. Elements of the investigation included evaluating past and present water quality characteristics regarding the potential for contributing to corrosion, identifying causes of the water quality complaints, and recommending any changes in treatment processes or operating procedures which would improve the overall stability of the treated water. The study and implementation was carried out in three phases. Corrosion was reduced 25 percent and complaints fell from an average of 27 per month to 16 per month following implementation of Phase II.
