This paper provides data that adds insight to the impact of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) on iron removal in water treatment. The specific objectives of this study were to: evaluate the effect of the relative molecular weight distribution of natural organic matter on the extent of iron complexation and the ability of various oxidants to oxidize complexed iron species; and evaluate the fate of complexed iron during the coagulation of DOC with alum.
