After nearly two years, the City of DeKalb's Water Division continues to recognize significant electrical cost savings as the result of a 10-year program of plans and implementation of a modernized water system with significant increased distribution storage, new wells, additional mains, and a fully computerized control system. Aside from significant electrical cost savings, the City believes that other ancillary benefits are occurring as the result of the off-peak pumping and increased distribution storage. Those benefits include: reduction in pump repairs; reduction in electrical control repairs; fewer main breaks; less manpower staffing for off hour duties; a reduction of weekend and night personnel; few call backs; and improved and stabilized pressure throughout the system.
