In closing, the City of Fort Lauderdale, the largest city in Broward County, is facing manyobstacles in meeting their future water needs. Issues related to allocation, resource protectionand preservation, treatment requirements, and regulatory uncertainties appear to beoverwhelming. The City has attacked these issues in a very pro-active manner. They areworking hand-in-hand with regulators to stay in tune with rule-making and regulatory changes,they are taking measures to optimize use of existing resources, they are rehabilitating agingfacilities, they are planning their infrastructure to meet long-term demands, they are diversifyingtheir raw water supplies, and they have active and effective water conservation programs. All ofthese initiatives will enable the City of Fort Lauderdale to meet future water demands in spite ofall the regulatory and regional planning uncertainties. Includes table, figures.
