This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of the Gibson IslandAdvanced Water Treatment Plant, located in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, and the Cape CoralWater Reclamation Facility, located in Cape Coral, Florida. Ultraviolet (UV) treatment fundamentals are presented, includingdisinfection,UV transmittance, andadvanced oxidation equipment. The presentation compares the projects on advanced oxidationand disinfection with UV. Presentation conclusions indicate the following: advanced oxidation targets small dissolvedmolecules while disinfection targets microorganisms;advanced oxidation has a much higher UV doserequirement which means much higher waterquality is needed for a system with a similar size;once the UV equipment size (installed kW) havebeen determined required footprint is similar; and,the equipment capital cost representsapproximately half the whole of life cost of a UVsystem.
