Direct application of chlorite into water distribution systems has been shown to be aneffective alternative to minimize nitrification. Experiments were conducted to investigatethe inhibition of the ammonia oxidizing bacteria activity in batch scale. Theconcentration-contact time (CT) concept was applied to explain the rate of activity duringthe nitrification inhibition. A 99% inhibition of activity was used as criteria to develop aCT equation. Includes 7 references, tables, figure.
