This powerpoint presentation presents three different project locations where issues with iron and manganese are not solved with traditional oxidation-adsorption or oxidation-precipitation-filtration treatment. The locations include: Arugum Bay Water Supply Project, Sri Lanka, US AID -- Sri Lanka Tsunami ReconstructionProgram;Jefferson County, Washington,PUD No. 1 of Jefferson County -- Sparling WellWTP Upgrade; and,Fairbanks, Alaska,Alaska Department of Fish and Game -- RuthBurnett Sport Fish Hatchery Influent Treatment. Project goals and concerns for each site are provided, along with biological treatment challenges, Pilot Testing Overview for individual sites, and cost savings. Presentation conclusions for biological iron and manganese filtration indicate that:it provides a cost effective alternative totraditional oxidation-adsorption or oxidation-precipitation-filtration treatment in systemswith high iron and manganese levels;it greatly reduces the need for chemicals andoperating costs; and,it provides a safe alternative in situationswhere chlorine exposure is not acceptable. Includes figures.
