Key points presented in this powerpoint presentation include the following: lead in water poses an acute health concern;current sampling methods miss many hazards;public health officials do not understand theproblem; and, consideration of health threats from water canexplain several paradoxes. Presentation conclusions indicated that: the higher levels of lead sampled in many U.S.schools exceed thresholds that would triggerfines/product recalls if found in toys by the CPSC;there is no evidence that elevated blood lead fromcontaminated tap water does not occur with fairlyhigh frequency (H 0.1-1.0%) in some cities andsimply goes undetected; Lead and Copper Rule(LCR) monitoring data tells us very little aboutpublic health risks;public health agencies do not understand even thesimplest aspects of lead exposure via drinkingwater; and, a hypocritical double standard is applied tolead in water vs. lead from paint/toys. Includes figures.
