The City of Edmonton has used Poly Vinyl Chloride (PVC) water distribution pipesince 1977. Testing of pipe from the first installation in 1977 was performed in1994. Results of that testing showed that pipe to be in very good condition.Other testing of PVC pipe after installation has provided positive results. In 2005,follow-up testing was conducted on PVC pipe which had been in service for morethan 25 years, again with positive results. By the end of 2006, the length of PVCpipe in the distribution system was more than 1,100 km (700 miles) - more thanany other pipe material. PVC pipe has performed well in Edmonton andcontinues to be the material of choice for the water distribution system. Includes 3 references, table.
