The City of Kennewick's Water Filtration Plant (WFP) treats water from theColumbia River. The WFP Improvements Project converted the seasonally used 7.5-mgdconventional treatment plant to a 15-mgd membrane treatment plant for year-round waterproduction. The WFP Improvements Project was constructed in three phases, withconstruction occurring in the winter season when the WFP was not in service. Eachconstruction phase included startup, operator training, and modification of operatingstrategies to accommodate new systems, chemicals, and reporting requirements to theWashington State Department of Health (DOH).This poster paper focuses on the operating strategies, procedures, and activitiesassociated with the major process changes required when integrating submergedmembrane technology into a conventional water treatment plant. Includes tables, figures.
