The goal of this study was to investigate the feasibility of using Boron Doped Diamond (BDD) electrodes for reductive dechlorination of trichloroethylene. The approach included: studying the reaction mechanism;analyzing the reaction products; studying factors affecting rate of reduction such asconcentration, temperature, over potential, andreaction products. Conclusions were that: TCE reduction of BDD occurred via chemisorbed intermediate;no intermediate chlorinated products were observed;TCE reduction on BDD were combined first and zeroth order with respect to TCE concentration; and, TCE reduction rates on BDD surface were higher than that of iron surface. Includes figures.
