In July 2006, the Las Vegas Valley Water District (the District) awarded a team ofresearchers led by Polytechnic University, New York, NY, (Poly) and SINTEF,Trondheim, Norway, (the Research Team), a contract in view of implementing anadvanced Asset Management program centered on CARE-W (Computer AidedRehabilitation of Water Networks) for the planning of the rehabilitation of their 3,800miles of buried pipes. The focus of this project was to provide LVVWD with tools toimprove their planning and decision making process, plan and justify for potentiallynecessary water rate increases based on properly collected and analyzed data.This paper describes:the conditions at LVVWD that led to this effort as well as the objectives pursued;the CARE-W-centered tools and program put in place; and,the current advancement of the project as well as future plans. Includes tables, figures, appendices.
