This paper discusses the Nacimiento Water Project that will deliver a sustainable raw water supply from Lake Nacimiento to water purveyors throughout San Luis Obispo County, California. It is an example of cooperative water planning between the north and south County communities with a total of four water agencies participating in the project. Black & Veatch is directing a project team that is providing design and construction consultationservices for the new raw water facilities, which include a multi-port lakeintake and pump station, approximately 45-miles of transmission pipeline ranging indiameter from 30-inches to 12-inch, four storage tanks, two intermediate pump stations,turnouts, control center, supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) and project control facilities.The intake facility, a 170-foot deep, 20-foot-diameter vertical shaft connected to the lakethrough a series of horizontal intake tunnels, will allow water to be drawn from variousdepths of the reservoir for optimal water quality control. In addition to facilities design,the Black and Veatch team is managing the geotechnical and surveying aspects of theproject. Includes abstract only.
