The paper discusses a project to conduct an Energy Action Plan for Veolia Water and propose a slate of potentialprojects that will reduce utility costs and can be implemented within reasonable payback periods.SquareD Engineering personnel visited the Veolia Water Company on August 8 and 9, 2005. The system is anefficiently run production operation. The contributions of plantmanagement and staff significantly increased the accuracy and value ofthis study.Historical use of utility cost and consumption provide the framework fordetermining project savings potential. The system's major processes wereidentified using information obtained during on-site visits and discussionswith appropriate plant staff members. Production processes includedscreening, preoxidation, mixing, chemical coagulation, flocculation,sedimentation, filtration, disinfection, pumping, etc.Project recommendations are made by matching this application's uniqueutility profile with technologies and process improvement opportunitiesfrom energy, utility, and automation systems in industrial environments.
