Palm Beach County has successfully obtained the first long-term 20-year durationwater use permit from the South Florida Water Management District that takes intoconsideration the need for commitment of water supply for Everglades restoration. The 20-yearwater use permit requires the implementation of an integrated water resource program involvingsignificant usage of alternative water supplies. This long duration permit will reduce costs byeliminating the application process need for shorter-term Water Use Permits and providingreduced bond financing rates. In addition, it provides assurances to county government, theenvironmental community, and regulatory agencies that water supply and land use planning areappropriately linked. Includes figures.
