Predictive models based on water quality (ultraviolet absorbance in particular) can beused reliably to estimate chlorine dioxide (ClO2) demand. Approximately 50-70 percent of theClO2 reacted at any point in time appeared as the chlorite ion (ClO2-). These studies provided aframework for water utilities to balance ClO2 dosages and source water quality in order to meetdisinfection requirements and the ClO2- maximum contaminant level on a daily basis.
