Regular and appropriate water quality sampling in the distribution system and timely analysis and interpretation of test results are essential to assuring that safe drinking water is provided to all water users. Important clues are qavailable from distribution system monitoring that can detect emerging problems so that they can be solved before they become seriious. In this paper, basic distribution monitoring strategies for small water systems are described. Three areas of monitoring are presented: microbial contaminants, corrosion products, and disinfection byproducts. Includes 9 references.
