Micofiltration (MF) offers diverse potential in reuse applications due to its ability to realize the dual functionality of physical disinfection and clarification. Three extensive pilot studies had recently been undertaken at different wastewater treatment facilities. These pilot tests involved evaluation of MF, and in some cases also conventional processes, for removal of microbial parameters and other parameters of interest. This paper focuses on the role of MF for microbial removal and presents results from the pilot testing that are related to microbial parameters. The primary objective of this paper is to evaluate, discuss, and present the performance of the MF process with a focus on the efficiency for microbial removal for reuse applications or for direct discharge without chemical disinfection. Includes 3 references, tables.
