This specification covers two types of lime to be used for reducing water susceptibility in asphalt mixtures.Type I - High calcium-hydrated lime containing maximum magnesium content, calculated as magnesium oxide, of 4 percent by mass. Compliance with chemical composition requirements shall be determined by use of T 219 (Note 1). Type II - Magnesium or dolomitic lime containing magnesium, calculated as magnesium oxide, greater than 4 but no more than 36 percent by mass. Compliance with chemical composition requirements shall be determined by use of ASTM C 25 (Note 2). Note 1: Magnesium oxide content may be determined by ASTM C 25.
